The world of energy is changing fast. Stay up to date with relevant seasonal energy information, Bourne's Energy latest news, and more.
As part of Bourne’s Energy’s ongoing effort to become both greener and more efficient, the company is adding two new diesel hybrid fuel delivery trucks to their fleet. Bourne’s Energy chose to lease the hybrid vehicles from Ryder, a leader in transportation solutions. The vehicles are based on Ryder’s RydeGreensm hybrid offering. This is one of the first applications of hybrid technology that meets the standards for transporting hazardous materials and the first use of hybrids for home fuel delivery in the Northeast.
“We see transition to hybrid delivery vehicles as a solid business decision, as well as testament to a longterm environmental commitment that goes above and beyond mandates and regulations,” said Bourne’s Energy President, Peter Bourne. “If there is a way to serve our customers while using less fuel, that benefits the bottom line for everyone. But perhaps more importantly, we also feel that as a community fuel dealer, we have an obligation to lead the way in showing our customers how to reduce their carbon footprint in every way possible. Starting with our own operations is a great way to credibly convince people of our commitment – and to initiate a lot of conversations around town.”
“Ryder is committed to leveraging our expertise and the latest technologies to help our customers
execute sustainable operational practices that make them more efficient, responsible to the
environment, and profitable,” said Tony Tegnelia, Ryder President of Global Fleet Management Solutions.
“We are proud to contribute to Bourne’s Energy’s efforts to implement environmentally sound fleet
solutions.”
Because the trucks use the hybrid engine’s battery storage to run product pumps, the need to idle
during deliveries is dramatically reduced. Bourne’s is currently estimating that use of the trucks on some
of their busier delivery routes could result in a 30 to 40% improvement in fuel efficiency and a dramatic
decrease in diesel emissions. While the impact to the casual observer will be small, the greater longterm
impact on the environment will be considerable.
Already well established as a progressive energy company, Bourne’s serves up biodiesel to all of its oil customers
and has been running most of its fleet on biodiesel for years. Bourne’s is a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR
contractor and is certified to perform home energy audits in keeping with the standards promoted by Efficiency
Vermont. Bourne’s Energy is also a licensed installer of solar hot water systems.
Bourne’s will be operating two hybrid trucks: one for oil delivery and a second for propane delivery. The trucks will
be used predominantly in high volume, more populated/congested delivery areas to maximize efficiency.
